Lifestyle changes to help control your cholesterol levels

The American Heart Association recommends three things you can do to raise and maintain healthy HDL cholesterol levels:

  • Quit smoking - and if you don't smoke, don't start!
  • Maintain a healthy weight.
  • Exercise for at least 30 minutes per day as often as possible, including walking, biking, jogging, swimming, dance, etc.

Exercise has also been shown to lower LDL cholesterol levels.

It is very important to consult with your primary healthcare physician before beginning any exercise program.
